Advanced Typography Solutions for Mac OS X

NEW – iPhone 4 ‘Sangam MN’ Fonts!

Apple has freely released some new Indic AAT fonts with its iPhone 4 Simulator (3.78 GB file!). You can see all of the iOS fonts by listing the contents of the following directories, after installing the simulator:

$ ls /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/*/System/Library/.lilid/.lilic/

To save you having to download that huge installer and pluck out the fonts yourself, I have packaged them into a single archive:

Indic iOS Fonts (1.3 MB)

This download contains the following ten font families, each with Regular and Bold faces, all in the TrueType Collection format:

Oriya support has never before been available for free on Mac OS X.

These fonts all use Apple Advanced Typography (AAT) to convert Unicode sequences into the correct visual glyph representation of the script. This requires considerable work to convert each OpenType font to the Macintosh TrueType format. All the fonts on here are free to download. Some are available under an Open Source license, such as the GNU GPL. See individual pages for specific details.
